DALLAS - Hall of Famer DeMarcus Ware threw his support behind former teammate Jason Witten to be the new head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.
The Cowboys are looking for a new head coach after parting ways with Mike McCarthy earlier this offseason.
Ware backs Witten for head coach job
What they're saying:
While on the Rich Eisen Show, DeMarcus Ware said that Jason Witten could have an impact similar to another former Cowboys tight end, Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell.
"Jason Witten can be the coach for the Dallas Cowboys," Ware told Eisen. "He has a no-nonsense mentality."
Ware said that Witten knows the offensive game and, if he matches up with a good defensive coordinator, he could be a good coach.
The former Cowboys pass rusher floated his own name as a possibility to be a linebackers coach under Witten.
"No doubt. I would really consider that," Ware replied.

Jason Witten, who is currently the head coach of Liberty Christian in Argyle, has received a bit of buzz as a potential head coach for the Cowboys.
In an interview with 105.3 The Fan last year, owner Jerry Jones said that Witten could have a future as an NFL head coach.
Like Ware, Jones compared Witten to Campbell.
Witten has coached at the high school level since 2021 after reportedly turning down multiple assistant coach openings with the NFL and college programs.
NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport previously floated that Witten could be an option for an assistant coach if the Cowboys hired Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.
