The first school in Texas named for the 43rd president of the United States will be dedicated Thursday in St. Paul, which is in the Wylie Independent School District.

Construction began around this time last year on the new George W. Bush Elementary School. It opened in August with more than 550 kids in kindergarten through fourth grade, but can accommodate up to 900 students.

In addition to the name, Bush is honored at the school with a presidential seal painted on the floor. The background of a trophy case displays the name of every victim who died in the Sept. 11 attacks. There’s also a quote from First Lady Laura Bush painted on a wall.

“The power of books lies in its power to turn a solitary act into a shared vision. As long as we have books, we are not alone,” she said.

Bush is expected to attend the dedication ceremony and will get a tour of the school.
