Wounded Fort Worth officer battling medical issues
A Fort Worth police officer wounded in a shootout last week continues to battle medical issues.
Officer Matt Pearce's wife Laura said Friday he's now on antibiotics for a possible pneumonia infection and is also having problems with his stomach. She posted an update on his GoFundMe page.
Laura said thankfully her husband no longer has to be sedated.
Earlier this week, Pearce had to go into emergency surgery after an abdominal incision ripped open during a coughing fit.
Fellow officers keep showering Pearce with support. A prayer shawl was gifted to the Fort Worth police department from officers in Yakima, Wash. Pearce is a Yakima native.
Pearce was shot five times last Tuesday while chasing a fugitive and his son. Ed Mciver Sr. was killed in the return fire and his 21-year-old son, Ed Mciver Jr., is now facing several charges including attempted capital murder.
Pearce remains hospitalized at JPS Hospital in Fort Worth.
