Woman dies in midday wrong-way crash in Carrollton
A 61-year-old woman was killed in a wrong-way crash near RL Turner High School on Wednesday.
The wreck, which happened shortly before noon, occurred when Deborah Winters was driving northbound in the southbound lanes of Josey Lane.
Winters' Volvo wagon crashed head-on into a Volkswagen Passat, who tried to get out of the way but couldn't avoid Winters' car.
Winters was taken to a local hospital, but died a few hours later.
"We're trying to figure out why in broad daylight, in the middle of the day, she would have been driving the wrong direction," said spokeswoman Jolene DeVito
Police do not believe speed was a factor in the wreck and hope toxicology results provide new information into a potential cause.
