A woman hit by a car driven by an alleged drunk driver on McKinney Avenue in Uptown Dallas on Tuesday night has died.

Emily Javadi, 34, was getting workout equipment from the backseat of her car in the 4000 block of McKinney Ave. near Elizabeth St. just after 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Suddenly, another vehicle crashed into the back of her parked car. Javadi was thrown forward and struck a metal pole.

Dallas police said Travis Elwell, 23, from Mesquite, was driving his car "at a high rate of speed" and failed to notice the parked car ahead of him.

Javadi was taken to Parkland Hospital where she later died.

Police documents show Elwell admitted to having two Jack Daniels and Cokes in the hours before the crash. The arresting officer said he had bloodshot eyes and the smell of alcohol on his breath.

Elwell has been charged with intoxication manslaughter and remained jailed as of Wednesday. He declined an interview request from FOX4.

The group Uptown Dallas, Inc. said it was already in the middle of a study examining traffic patterns and speeds in the area where the wreck occurred.
