Police in Louisiana said a routine traffic stop last month yielded $1,500 worth of stolen meat from Walmart.

Dig deeper:

Slidell police said officers saw a vehicle traveling without functioning brake lights.

Officers pulled over the vehicle and spotted two men inside who were "acting unusually nervous."

"Was it the flashing lights? No. Were there drugs in the car? Also, no. Their anxiety stemmed from something else entirely . . . a good old-fashioned beef heist," police said on its Facebook page.

Officers said they found the stolen meat, which included USDA ribeye steaks and slabs of beef brisket.

The suspects, 55-year-old John Garriga and 66-year-old Charles Walker, were charged with felony theft and possession of stolen property charges.

What they're saying:

"And with shoplifting records longer than a CVS receipt, we don't see any cookouts happening in their immediate future," police added.
