Undercover DPS troopers shoot armed man in Northeast Dallas

DPS troopers working undercover shot an armed man in Northeast Dallas on Tuesday afternoon.
DPS officials said the troopers were conducting surveillance in an unmarked silver SUV in a shopping center parking lot when a white Dodge Durango pulled up behind them and blocked them in.
Next, a man with a gun got out of the Dodge. As he approached the troopers, they feared for their lives and shot him. DPS officials said they recovered the suspect’s handgun.
The Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting.
Tonya Hollins witnessed the aftermath.
“We heard a couple of gunshots and we looked out and seeing them… a young man on the ground and a couple of other people that they pulled out of the car,” Hollins said.
Neither trooper was hurt during the shooting. The suspect is in serious condition.
DPS said there’s no indication the suspect was involved in the undercover investigation, so a motive remains unclear.
