School starts for students in 4 North Texas districts

Students in four North Texas school districts headed back to class Monday.

It was the first day for the Garland, Plano, Kennedale and Venus school districts.

FOX 4's Brandon Todd visited with kids, their parents and educators at Huffman Elementary in Plano.

This year the school is authorized as an International Baccalaureate World School. Students from all over the district applied to transfer and attend.

"I can't wait to go to school and I want to make a lot of new friends," said 10-year-old Alyssa Reaves.

"The first day is always exciting but extra exciting this year. We have a lot to be proud of at Huffman Elementary. We are now IB World School at Huffman Elementary," said Principal Jamey Allen. "We have put in a lot of work – the staff, the students, the community that have been committed to this program for the past two years. We have worked hard and the successes are paying off."
