Postal worker continues tradition of hosting Thanksgiving for community

Miguel Perdomo has met a lot of people in his 29 years as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He’s also built many relationships on his route in East Harlem for 16 years. So much so, this will be the eleventh year he continues a special tradition for those that need some extra help on Thanksgiving.

“Come to my dinner on Thanksgiving Day. I’m going to put a flyer right there. You’re going to see it tomorrow,” he tells someone.

With 20-plus turkeys, mac and cheese, candied yams, and more -- he’ll be stuffing their bellies instead of their mailboxes.

“You’d be surprised how many people on Thanksgiving Day don’t have a place to go eat,” he told FOX 5. “We feed about 300 to 400 people that day from 12:30 to 4 o’clock in the afternoon.”

It’s not the most lavish neighborhood, but there are people who care. Perdomo’s co-workers and local businesses donate whatever they can to help make this neighborhood tradition possible.

“What I see is, I see a lot of love, you know, which these days is hard to see,” Perdomo said.

Of all the messages he delivers every day, the most important one is the message he carries in his heart -- A message of goodwill.
