Police detain suspects near El Centro College, lockdown lifted
DALLAS - El Centro College in Downtown Dallas was placed on lockdown Tuesday morning as police tried to catch several robbery suspects.
Dallas County Community Colleges District spokeswoman Ann Hatch said it happened just before noon. DCCCD police helped Dallas Area Rapid Transit police go after three suspects who were allegedly involved in a robbery.
Two of the suspects were taken into custody outside the college. Officers swept the building looking for the third, Hatch said.
Out of an abundance of caution, El Centro issued an intruder alert and told students to “got to the nearest room and lock-down.” Students who are not already on campus were also warned to stay away for their own safety.
However, Hatch said police did not find the third suspect in the building.
Students were given the all clear and the lockdown was lifted around 12:30 p.m.
DART officials said police are still questioning the two people who were taken into custody. Officers did find a gun near the campus but it's not clear if it is connected to the incident.
