Police chase ends in 4-vehicle crash in Pleasant Grove
DALLAS - Several people were injured after a police chase involving a carjacking suspect ended in a crash Tuesday night in Pleasant Grove.
Police said the carjacking happened just before 10 p.m. An armed man approached a woman as she was leaving the El Rio Grande Supermarket on Lake June Road and demanded her keys. She complied and the man took off in her black SUV.
Officers quickly spotted the Nissan Armada and tried to pull it over. But the suspect refused to stop and led police in a pursuit down Highway 175 to Elam Road.
The chase went through the streets of Pleasant Grove. When the suspect got to the corner of Jim Miller Road and Scyene Road, he broadsided a car with four people inside and that car hit at Jeep. The SUV spun out of control and hit a police officer’s squad car.
The suspect tried to run away but was quickly arrested. He was taken to the hospital to be examined under police supervision.
Three people in the first car were hospitalized, two with serious injuries. The driver of the Jeep was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The officer involved in the crash was not hurt.
Police did recover a handgun from the stolen SUV. Police said the suspect is facing charges for aggravated robbery and felony evading arrest. Additional charges are possible.
