Plano police seek hit-and-run driver that left man hospitalized

Plano police need help locating a hit-and-run driver who put a man in the hospital after a crash Friday night.

Without a good description of the truck or pictures, police want anyone with information on the crash that happened near 75 and Legacy to come forward.

Latoya Schruggs thinks anyone who can drive away from a crash that could have killed her husband, a father of three, must be heartless. She's asking the man who caused the crash around 10 p.m. last Friday to turn himself in.

Her husband, Ivan, says it was road rage. He says the driver of a silver truck, either a Chevy Silverado or a GMC Sierra, followed him as he headed home from his mom's house, driving north on 75.

As they approached the Legacy Drive exit, Plano police say the silver truck hit the driver's side of Ivan's truck. Ivan spun out and ended up moving from the right lane to the far left lane, hitting another truck which caught fire. Ivan's truck flipped, and rolled.

"A couple of days before that happened, three days straight, I was up at four o'clock in the morning, praying. And I didn't know why,” Latoya said. “I just knew that something bad was going to happen, but I didn't know what."

Police say the driver who caused the crash drove away.

"I know he looked in that mirror as he kept going and he saw a car that was burning and my husband's truck that had been flipped over three times," Latoya explained.

Ivan has since gone through four surgeries. His left arm took the brunt of the blow when debris got stuck in his arm. He also had a gash in his head required staples. He'll undergo another skin graph surgery on Thursday.

"Please, please, whoever was driving that truck, turn yourself in,” Latoya pleaded. “Ask for forgiveness and let whatever happens happen."

Police are checking local body shops and hope to interview Ivan more extensively on Tuesday. Police want to know more about the possible road rage that led to the crash. Both Ivan and a witness say the silver truck was following Ivan.
