Paralyzed girl advocates against drinking and driving

A 12-year-old Fort Worth girl is part of the state’s campaign against drinking and driving.

Chilli Vasquez was paralyzed from the waist down after her mother’s car was it by a drunken driver four years ago.

She’s featured in this year’s “Drink, Drive, Go to Jail” campaign and tells her story in public service announcements.

“If you’re gonna drink, at least let a family member or taxi or someone take you to your location or just stay in that same place,” she said.

Last summer in Texas 336 people were killed and 680 were seriously injured in alcohol-related crash. The Texas Department of Transportation’s campaign is meant to put a face on those stats.

The convicted driver who caused Chilli’s accident is now serving a 10-year prison sentence.
