Officers shoot armed Lewisville burglary suspect

DALLAS - A police chase that started in Lewisville ended in Lake Highlands with a man getting shot by police.

Lewisville police said officers originally responded to a burglary at the Regal Buffet off Interstate 35E late Tuesday evening. They ended up chasing the suspect’s red pickup truck to the Regency Hotel in Lake Highlands.

The suspect allegedly fired at officers as they pursued him. He then hid inside the hotel for about 45 minutes, possibly hiding in a crawl space above the second floor.

Police set up a perimeter around the hotel. The suspect allegedly fired at officers again as he was trying to escape and a Dallas Police Department officer returned fire.

The 48-year-old man was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

It's not yet clear what charges he will face. Police did recover a bag of cash at the hotel, possibly stolen from the Lewisville business.

No police officers were hurt during the incident.
