A suspect was taken to the hospital Saturday night after police said an off-duty Dallas Police Department officer shot the man while he chased a victim with a knife.

According to Dallas police, the officer was pumping gas at the 7-Eleven in the 100 block of N. Carroll Ave., at about 11:25 p.m., when he saw a man chasing another man with a bladed weapon.

The off-duty officer, who was in full uniform, feared for the victim's safety and shot the suspect.

The suspect, who has not been identified, was taken to a local hospital.

The officer is a 4-year veteran with the department.  He was not hurt.

The suspect will be charged with aggravated assault, according to police.
