North Texas teen behind Team Romeo passes away

A Hillcrest High School graduate who battled cancer with the support of his classmates has passed away. He was only 19 years old.

Romeo Hernandez’s dying wish was to let everyone know his appreciation for their efforts. He posted a video on Facebook Monday to thank all the people who have supported him.

"Thank you for the prayers. I've never felt more comfortable than I did with you," he said. "It makes me feel really whole. I love you all."

His mother said was touched by so many people and she’s grateful for their help and prayers.

FOX 4 first met Hernandez when he was a sophomore in 2013. He had just been diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a rare bone disease and his classmates started the Team Romeo fundraising campaign to help cover his medical expenses.

Despite the setbacks in his treatment, Hernandez graduated from high school last year.

His family has now set up a GoFundMe page to help cover his funeral expenses. To donate, visit www.gofundme.com/teamromeoh.
