New "super lice" are drug resistant

Parents, there is a light at the end of the tunnel, it’s back to school time and your house will return to peace and order. But as your precious babies go back to school beware that it is peak season for SUPER LICE. That’s right, the majority of states are dealing with what some health experts have called “super lice.”

In 42 out of 48 states, 100 percent of lice that were tested had evolved to be resistant to the drugs used in most over-the-counter lice treatments. Worst. News. Ever.

The new report published in the Journal of Entomology analyzed data from 138 sites and 14,281 lice across the nation. At most of the sites, 100% of the bugs were resistant. And forget about home remedies that your mom swore by. There is no evidence that olive oil, mayonnaise or Vaseline work on these little suckers either.

Experts say the best bet is to call your doctor and ask for the newest prescription treatments available that are highly effective against lice compared to the over-the-counter treatment. Once you defeat the super lice, you can go back to being Super Mom and Super Dad.
