Mesquite Christmas event closes early due to disturbance

The Christmas in the Park event in Mesquite had to shut down 15 minutes early Saturday night because of a group of teens running through large crowds and blocking entertainment areas, causing a disturbance, according to city spokesman, Wayne Larson.

About 10,000 people were there Saturday night.

There was one confirmed fight behind a stage area. During the fight, one person did not comply with officer commands, so the officer attempted to use a taser but missed. The person left the scene, Larson said.

Six people were briefly detained by Mesquite police for questioning. All 6 were from Dallas. One person was issued a citation for drug paraphernalia.

No one was seriously injured, Larson said.

Outside of this incident, the three day event was a success, Larson said.
