Man shoots, injures man in car at Plano movie theater parking lot

Plano police are searching for the man who shot and injured a driver outside a Cinemark movie theater.

Police said a man and woman were sitting in a car in the Cinemark parking lot along the Dallas North Tollway about 7:40 p.m. Monday when a man approached the vehicle.

The man knocked on the window and reportedly demanded that the driver get out of the car. The driver instead drove away from the lot, but the man fired multiple shots into the vehicle.

One of the shots hit the driver and paramedics were called to a nearby area where the driver stopped. He was taken to the hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation is in its early phases as police are working on a suspect description.

Somehow, the injured man was able to drive about a mile up the tollway to the BMW Classic dealership, where a man named Matthew Johnson was wrapping up for the night. The victim was driving a BMW coupe.

“He said, ‘Sir’ or, ‘Bro, I've been shot! I need help!’” said Johnson. “My first reaction is, is this a joke? Is someone playing a joke on me?”

He quickly realized it was no joke and called 911, even helping the driver with breathing exercises he'd learned as an Eagle Scout.

“He gets out of the car, and I see all the blood all over the back and on him, and I realize this is for real,” said Johnson.
