Police are looking for three suspects after a man was shot and killed during an overnight robbery in the Red Bird area of Dallas.

The shooting happened just before 11 p.m. Sunday at the 7-Eleven on Hampton Road and Ledbetter Drive. Officers found a 35-year-old man shot in the head next to a gas pump. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Police say the victim pulled up to get gas and called or texted his wife to say he would be home in a few minutes. He went to the store to buy something to drink.

When the man came out of the store, investigators say three men ran up on him and started pushing him before shooting him. While he was on the ground, they stole his personal property.

Witnesses said the suspects ran toward a nearby apartment complex called Pebble Cove after the shooting.

Ray Jefferson says he saw three young men walk across from the area near a drug store toward the 7-Eleven.

"And I just turned around and it was, 'Pop! Pop! Pop!' It was two gunshots, and I saw the guys take off," he recalled. "I couldn't believe it."

Dallas police released store surveillance video of one of the three suspects in hopes of identifying them.

"It is alarming. I mean anytime that they use that type of violence - push this guy down, shoot him and take his property - it's very alarming," said Dallas Police Asst. Chief Thoman Castro. "It's a heinous crime. That's why we need help in identifying who this person is so we can get them off the streets."

Anyone with information on the robbery is urged to contact police.
