Man arrested for attacking 78-year-old Fort Worth woman in her home

Fort Worth police arrested a man they say posed as an officer, robbed and sexually assaulted a 78-year-old woman.

Jesus Arredondo Gloria, 19, was arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault, aggravated robbery, injury to an elderly and impersonating a public servant.

The incident happened early Sunday morning at the woman’s home on Burton Avenue, which is near Highway 287 and Berry Street. She said a man knocked on her door and identified himself as a police officer.

The victim’s daughter said her mother realized too late that it was a trick.

“When she realized it, she cracked it to see,” the victim’s daughter said. “When she realized it wasn’t, she shut the door. That’s when he pushed the door open.”

Gloria forced his way into her home. He was armed with a knife and an empty beer bottle.

“He had a knife. She had a cane, hitting him with her cane and knocked the knife out his hand,” the woman's daughter said.

The family said he was inside the house for an hour and stole her money, ransacked the place, sexually assaulted her and beat her severely.

“She has a broken finger. Ribs bruised real bad. Got lots of bruises on her faces. Her eyes are swollen,” her daughter said. “He was chocking her so her neck is hurting. She has a black eye.”

Police said Gloria stole the woman’s SUV but he wrecked it a short time later. He then ran off and started throwing rocks at passing vehicles near Hwy. 287 and Rosedale Avenue.

One of the vehicles he hit was a Fort Worth Police Department patrol car. The officer who was driving it got out and took Gloria into custody.

“One of our motors officers happened to be in the right place at the right time,” said Fort Worth Police Sgt. Chris Britt. “Saw this individual looking like he was going to throw rocks at the officer. At that point, the officer stopped and took him into custody.”

The victim’s daughter said her family has never seen Gloria before.

“She been here 40 years,” her daughter said. “Nothing like this has happened. Just sad.”

The 78-year-old victim was treated at the hospital and is now back home recovering.
