Local critic killed while leaving film festival

A longtime movie critic was killed by a hit-and-run driver as he was leaving an event for the Dallas International Film Festival.

Gary Murray was hit while in a crosswalk at Mockingbird Lane and the Central Expressway Friday night. The driver sped off.

“He wanted to live life to the fullest and to have him taken away by a criminal act, you know, it’s selfish. I think what makes me made is the driver didn’t even stop,” said Dev Shapiro, a friend.

Murray was a founding member of the North Texas Film Critics Association.

Police have not released any information about the vehicle that hit him.
