Lightning is to blame for destroying two homes just a couple miles apart in Burleson.

One of the homes belonged to a couple who just welcomed a newborn baby. Morgan and Cameron Haddock were actually on their way to the hospital for an emergency C-section Monday night when lightning struck their home on Boxwood Lane.

A next door neighbor was recording when the home went up in flames. Burleson firefighters tried to rescue the couple's three cats but only one survived.

Family members were able to recover the couple's engagement album. It was the only thing of value left intact.

Neighbors like Wendy Burke have been collecting items for the Haddocks, who were expecting to come home from the hospital Tuesday.

"We watch their house burned down," she said. "It's hard."

The Haddocks will be staying with family members while they try to figure out their next move. They have insurance but not enough to cover the loss. They set up a GoFundMe page at www.gofundme.com/haddock-after-the-fire-fund

Less than three miles away on Misty Oak Trail another home was destroyed. Neighbors said the owner, named Dale, was home at the time got out ok. But he did lose everything in the fire. They've set up a donation fund for him at www.youcaring.com/dale-867207.
