John Wiley Price's former political consultant will get her own trial
DALLAS - One of the people charged with corruption along with Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price will get a separate trial.
A federal judge ordered that Price’s former political consultant, Kathy Nealy, be tried apart from him. Price and his longtime assistant, Dapheny Faine, will still face trial next month. The three were indicted two and a half years ago on corruption charges.
The judge made the decision after Nealy's attorneys sought to have the case against her dismissed. Her attorney argued the government gave her immunity against any crime before her testimony in the 2009 Don Hill City Hall corruption trial.
“The case against Kathy Nealy is hanging on by a thread. The case against John Wiley Price is gonna go to trial and the issue of whether Kathy Nealy's case, whether that thread stands, will be determined at a later date. But it’s not looking good for the government against Kathy Nealy,” said attorney Victor Vital, who is not involved in the Price case.
Vital said he doesn’t feel the government would want to reveal the bounty of FBI and U.S. Attorney notes, memos and other documents. He said they may decide not to take Nealy to trial to avoid having to do that.
More documents are expected to be released in the case later this week.
