Injured Ft. Worth PD officer still recovering at hospital

The Fort Worth police chief said Thursday doctors are considering waking up injured Officer Matt Pearce.

The officer remains sedated and in critical condition, but his family is cautiously optimistic. Pearce was shot five times Tuesday by a wanted fugitive.

Chief Joel Fitzgerald talked about how grateful Pearce's family is for the outpouring of community support. He also took time to applaud his team for their exemplary response to the shooting.

“There's a lot to be proud of here. There's a lot to be proud of from the standpoint of police officers like those surrounding me now that provided support. That helped with the search. They were able to get him out of precarious situation,” Fitzgerald said.

A father and son are accused of shooting Pearce. The father was killed by police.

Police announced Thursday they are charging the son, Ed Mciver Jr., with possession of a controlled substance in addition to other charges including attempted murder.
