Hours long standoff ends peacefully in Far East Dallas
Hours long standoff ends in Dallas - A standoff that began as a shoplifting incident at a Dallas Walmart ended peacefully after several hours.
The Dallas Sheriff's office confirms that an off duty officer was working as security at the Walmart on St. Francis and Buckner when he approached the suspect, believing him to be shoplifting.
Police say a scuffle began, and suspect attempted to steal the officer's gun. He then took off on foot and barricaded himself in the Lamplighter Motel.
Dallas Police called out SWAT, which used multiple "flash bangs" as well as gas to get the suspect to come out. Just after nine, Dallas Police arrested the suspect. He was checked at the scene for injuries and taken to jail.
The suspect's identity has not been released at this time.
