Hometown Hero: Vern Fiddler
When Vernon Fiddler played for the Dallas Stars he was relentless. Now he's the same as an assistant coach for the team and a cancer fighter.
In 1985, Vernon was five when his 11-year-old sister, Erin, died of leukemia. He was so young and doesn't remember much of that terrible time. His sister was in the hospital for a year and chemotherapy treatment back then in Canada was so different from chemo today.
When he was a player, Vernon and his wife Chrissy had a foundation, Fidd's Kids, which gave pediatric cancer patients a break to have fun on the ice. Now that he's a coach, he's raised more than $160,000 for the Leukemia & Lynphoma Society of North Texas.
The Frisco father is grateful for the health of his two children and he wants to help kids in the cancer battle. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of North Texas has named Vernon Fiddler it's Man of the Year. See him and the other honorees at the 35th annual St. Valentine's Day Luncheon and Fashion Show on February 7 at NorthPark Center. FOX4 is a proud sponsor.
