Hometown Hero: Jim Andrews

An engineer by trade and a woodworker at heart: that's how Jim Andrews describes himself.  He was an engineer with Bell Helicopter. For 20 years, he's been a volunteer with the Arlington Police Department.

Sgt. Jimmy Salinas is in the police training academy. He calls Jim his ‘ringer’ because while he shreds paper or files forms, he can also do special things.

In 2015, Arlington Police Chief Will Johnson started the Fallen Officer Challenge and asked Jim to make the challenge award.

The Fallen Officer Challenge and the wooden block honor the 8 Arlington police officers who made the ultimate sacrifice.  Each class of new police recruits can take the six-mile, two-hour grueling physical and mental challenge.  Those who complete it earn the wooden block which reads "Arlington Police Department Fallen Officer Challenge: Some Gave All.”

The wooden block honors the fallen officers and reminds their families and their family in blue that they are always remembered.

Jim is honored to use his talent and time to support the men and women of the Arlington Police Department.
