Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry to be on Dancing With the Stars

Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry is returning to the public spotlight – but on the dance floor and not in politics.

Perry is set to be a contestant on this fall’s season of Dancing With the Stars, according to an official announcement by ABC.

Rapper Vanilla Ice, who grew up in Garland, and U.S. Olympic team members Laurie Hernandez and Ryan Lochte will also compete.

Among the other cast members: Amber Rose, Calvin Johnson Jr., Jake T. Austin, James Hinchcliffe, Jana Kramer, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, Marilu Henner, Maureen McCormick and Terra Jole.

Perry has the free time to compete. He was one of the first 2016 Republican presidential candidates to drop out of the race – doing so last fall before a vote was ever cast.

Perry served as Texas governor from 2000 – 2015.
