A late night fire forced several Dallas residents out of their apartments.

It happened around 11 p.m. Sunday at the Preston Greens Apartments on Arapaho Road in North Dallas.

By the time firefighters arrived, the fire had already spread up the walls and into the attic. Smoke was coming from the top of the two-story apartment complex.

The firefighters were able to contain the fire but it destroyed a utility closet and electrical meters. All residents in Building 18 were forced to relocate because of the power outage.

The Red Cross is working to the families in eight apartments who were displaced. No one was hurt.

The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation but it is believed to be electrical.
