Federal judge nominee questioned about controversial comments
A lawyer nominated by President Trump to be a federal judge will face questions about his comments about transgender and gay people.
Jeff Mateer is the number two lawyer in the Texas attorney general’s office.
Two years ago in a speech he called transgender children part of “Satan’s plan.” He was also critical of gay marriage.
Mateer was nominated to be a judge in the eastern district of Texas, which stretches from Sherman to Beaumont.
He must be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
