A young Rockwall County girl was welcomed home from the hospital with balloons and a line of supporters.

Rebecca Miller, 5, has an inoperable brain tumor and has been in the hospital in May.

After a long stay in the hospital, she finally returned home on Friday. Her local community in Fate helped the Millers get through some rough times ahead.

Melissa Miller wanted to organize a welcome home parade for her youngest daughter, Rebecca. She reached out to Rebecca’s aunt for help, who contacted the mayor of Fate. He was happy to help.

“If one of our citizens are hurting, we want as a city to help them out in any way we can,” said Mayor Lorne Megyesi. “And this was the least I could do.”

Fire trucks, ambulances and dozens of supporters and neighbors filled the streets to welcome Rebecca home.

“We’re sad, but we know God has her in his hands,” said Christine Williams, Rebecca’s grandmother. “And we cherish the life that we’ve had with her.”

“It makes me feel amazing that this many people are here for my daughter,” Melissa said. “It’s been a really long couple of months so it’s amazing.”

Friday is officially Rebecca Miller Day in the town of Fate.
