DPD: Officer hurt while trying to stop suspects in Oak Cliff

A Dallas police officer was hurt Tuesday morning while trying to stop several suspects.

The Dallas Police Department said the officer spotted a stolen utility van on Western Street near Sunnyside Avenue in Oak Cliff around 7:30 a.m.

He pulled the van over and ordered the two men inside to get out. The passenger got out and took off running through the neighborhood.

Police said as the officer was chasing him, a third suspect in a black Ford Fusion drove up. The fleeing suspect jumped on the hood and yelled for the driver to “go.”

The officer got hurt as he grabbed onto the suspect and tried to pull him off the hood. He lost his grip and was partially run over. He was taken to the hospital and is in good condition, police said.

The drivers of the stolen van and the Ford Fusion were later taken into custody by other officers.

The suspect who fled on foot got away and is still at large. Police are still searching for him in the area.
