DeSoto police and DeSoto ISD police will provide increased security this week after a social media threat forced the lockdown of DeSoto High School and DeSoto middle schools on Monday afternoon.

DeSoto Police Department Sgt. David Williams said someone posted a message on Twitter about wanting to shoot up the high school Monday. That threat is unverified and there is nothing to suggest it is an actual threat, Sgt. Williams said.

Police locked down the schools as a safety precaution but say there was never an immediate threat. Nothing out of the ordinary was found during sweeps at the schools.

The district canceled all of Monday's after school activities at DeSoto High School as a precaution.
