AUSTIN, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - The Capitol grounds are transforming into the site of a day long party to celebrate the second inaugurations of Governor Greg Abbott and Lt. Governor Dan Patrick on Tuesday.
Things kicked off with a morning prayer service, which was followed by Abbott and Patrick taking the oath of office and giving speeches at a ceremony that took place on the north side of the Capitol.
The last time Abbott took the oath of office it was from the Capitol's south steps but it was changed this year to provide a better line of sight and to have it on flatter ground.
The Texas National Guard also fired off a 19 gun salute that was followed by a military flyover.
Streets around the Capitol have been closed since Monday. Colorado Street between 11th and 13th are shut down as well as 12th Street from Lavaca to Colorado. They will remain closed until Wednesday.
