Dallas now offering paid parental leave for city employees

City employees in Dallas will now get up to six weeks paid time off after the birth of a child.

The city council voted unanimously Wednesday to approve the policy.

Previously, city employees had to use sick days and vacation time to take time off for a new baby. If that ran out, they would go unpaid.

The new policy applies to both male and female employees.

Mayor Eric Johnson advocated for the policy change after he and his wife had their third child earlier this year.
