A suspected burglar was shot and killed by a business owner overnight in South Dallas.

Police said the suspect smashed a window and entered the Motorsports Museum on Pennsylvania Avenue, just south of Fair Park, around 12:50 a.m. Tuesday.

He was allegedly trying to steal two cartons of soda and a small stereo when the business owner confronted him and shot him in the abdomen, police said.

Officers were called to the scene and the suspect was taken to the hospital. He died a short time later.

The business owner told police he has been the victim of multiple burglaries and is now living in the building.

The case will be turned over to a grand jury, but the owner is not expected to face charges.
