Dallas Arts District scultpture dismantled for proposed office tower

A public art display was dismantled Tuesday to make way for a proposed office tower on the edge of the Dallas Arts District.

The 60-foot sculpture called “Proverb” has been on display at Pearl Street and Woodall Rodgers for 13 years.

The Dallas Symphony Foundation owns the property and sold it to a developer for a new office tower.

The symphony president says it was a tough call about removing the artwork.

“Watching it come down is a little bittersweet because it's been such an iconic part of this but you know such is the nature of change and progress and we wanted to make sure it was done in a respectful way,” said DSO president Jonathan Martin.

The sculpture will be moved to the artist's studio in New York.
