Criminal investigation possible for McKinney teen backyard brawl
A backyard brawl between two boys is now a McKinney school district investigation and could become a criminal case.
A pair of videos -- posted online -- appears to show two McKinney teens voluntarily fighting, while a group of their friends cheers them and records the battle. The fight, which appears to take place in the backyard of a home, stops after one boy injured his arm.
Laura Barnett found out about the video from the McKinney Moms Facebook page.
“I typed in the username on Twitter and looked it up and watched about five seconds of the video maybe not even that much and I was horrified. It's very obvious that these two kids are fighting the sake of fighting,” Barnett said.
A McKinney ISD spokesman issued a statement about the fight, saying in part:
"We did report the information to the McKinney Police Department, so that they can investigate the matter. We are also encouraging our students and parents to report any off campus altercations to the McKinney Police Department."
The school district can't suspend the students for their actions since the fight happened off campus, but the district can like restrict their participation in sports and other school activities.
