The community in Forney is coming together to help the family of a Dallas police officer after a fire destroyed their home.

The family of Gerry Guardiola is currently staying at a hotel after the house he and his father built on Wild Rose Circle in Forney in 2005 was burned down to its shell on Christmas Eve.

Guardiola’s wife, Elizabeth, works at the Forney Salon Suites and people who know her and the family stopped by throughout the day on Tuesday to bring donations.

The Dallas Police Association is also collecting donations through the Assist the Officer Fund.

“This is my home here,” Gerry Guardiola said. “When something like this happens there will be people to come help you.”

The fire investigator believes the fire started in the fireplace, but so far no official cause has been declared.
