Arson fire damages South Dallas black LGBT center
DALLAS - Police believe someone intentionally set a fire at a South Dallas black LBGT community center early Friday.
Flames were first reported at Abounding Prosperity in the 1800 block of Peabody Avenue around 6 a.m. Dallas Fire Rescue said by the time firefighters arrived there was already smoke and flames shooting out the back of the two-story residential building.
According to Abounding Prosperity’s Facebook page, the building serves as program space mostly for the South Dallas community and Dallas’ black LGBT community. It suffered severe fire damage.
“Luckily no staff or clients were present at the time, so we are grateful,” said AP, Inc. Community Center CEO Kirk Myers.
Police said the fire appears to be incendiary in nature. Arson investigators were called to the scene.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Dallas Fire Rescue’s fire investigation office at 214-670-4319.
