Armed robberies prompt Dallas SWAT standoff, 3 detained
DALLAS - Police believe they’ve caught the three men wanted for an overnight robbery spree that led to a SWAT standoff in far east Dallas.
The armed robberies happened in Garland. In two of the cases a man was armed with a shot gun stole items from people walking outside different apartment complexes. In the third case two men stole a tan Mitsubishi SUV outside a convenience store.
Police spotted the stolen SUV and tried to pull it over at Interstate 30 and Northwest Highway. After following the vehicle through Mesquite and into Dallas, the suspects ditched the SUV at the Villa Bonita Apartments near I-30 and La Prada Drive.
Officers saw one man run into an upstairs apartment, prompting a SWAT standoff. Three men later surrendered.
“They came out with their hands up. They surrendered. They are detained as of right now. We will be interviewing them, determining whether they are the suspects and also determining whether there are any more people inside the apartment,” said Lt. Pedro Barineau.
A gun was recovered from inside the stolen SUV, police said.
