A family in Parker County says their 15-year-old son was by all outward signs healthy when he collapsed at school. The teenager later died.

Aledo High School remembered Trenten Darton Tuesday night. The sophomore basketball player had to be rushed to the hospital Monday morning.

Athletic trainers and the school’s nurse tried to resuscitate him after he collapsed. But Trenten did not survive. He died Tuesday morning at Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth.

“We have some staff members who are traumatized by what happened yesterday. In fact, a couple of the staff members worked, in my opinion, heroically to save his life,” said Derek Citty, the Aledo ISD superintendent.

Trenten's grieving mother said she is thankful for all the support from the school.

“The support and the prayers that they have been sending up for me, from people in the community… I don’t even know,” she said.

“He beat me to the Lord first, but other than that Trenten is in a much better place,” said his grandfather, Eddie Darton.

Sadly this is the third death of an Aledo High School student over the past two years.

A medical examiner will determine the teen's exact cause of death.
