3 teens critically injured in Tarrant County crash

Five people, including three high school students, were sent to the hospital after a short chase and then a crash in Tarrant County.

An Everman ISD resource officer says he was called to the high school about suspicious activity on campus.

“That's when he observed this black Mazda sedan driving erratically on the campus coming from the campus,” explained Everman PD Sgt. Craig Spencer. “The vehicle nearly struck a student and ran another silver vehicle off the roadway."

Everman police say the resource officer tried to pull over the Mazda but turned off his lights and sirens when he determined it was too dangerous to keep chasing them. The officer continued in the same direction until he was the first to come up on the crash.

Police say the Mazda ran a red light at the intersection of Everman Parkway and I-35 in Fort Worth and was hit by a pickup truck.

The five people in the Mazda were rushed to the hospital. Police say the driver was a 20-year-old man with four teenage passengers. Three of them were Everman High School students. Three people, including one of the students, remain in the hospital.

The driver of the pickup truck only received minor injuries.

Fort Worth police say they are completing the crash investigations to determine what was going on in that car. Police say they don't know yet if drugs or alcohol might have been involved and charges could be pending.
