Atmos crews worked all day on Monday after two people were hurt when their home exploded in Dallas overnight.

The explosion happened just before 1 a.m. Monday in a duplex off Spring Avenue near the Fair Park area. Two men who live on one side were hurt but the people who live on the other side were not.

“I was using the restroom when I heard… well first of all the ceiling collapsed then I heard a loud boom. I came out of the bathroom seen that half of the roof was gone. We got out,” said Willie Rocker, who was inside the duplex when it happened.

There was a small fire in the home after the blast. Firefighters put out the flames. Atmos Energy also shut off natural gas service to the house and joined Dallas Fire-Rescue in the investigation. There were no evacuations of nearby homes.

It's not known what caused the explosion. Investigators are trying to determine if the neighborhood has leaky gas lines, like those that caused similar problems in northwest Dallas.

Atmos crews drilled holes and checked lines for leaks and pressure. They said in a statement no gas was found outside the house. Dallas Fire-Rescue arson investigators also visited the scene, which is standard procedure and not necessarily and indication of foul play.

The two injured men were taken to the hospital with burns, but are expected to survive.
