'Stand to Honor' fundraising event continues
DALLAS - Volunteers are still standing in Victory Plaza to raise money for military families.
The Stand to Honor volunteers will remain on their feet until they raise $1 million. Their goal is to provide scholarship money for the families of 200 fallen soldiers.
They started on Saturday and have been standing in shifts. So far they’ve raised $670,000.
The volunteers said hearing from people about why they want to help has kept them going.
“We had some amazing stories. A guy drove down from Joplin, Mo. and he saw it on the news. He drove down and stood for an hour and turned around and drove back. We had a gentleman who came down that buried his daughter because she served this country. He had her flag and had it on the box. That was emotional for everyone,” said Gus Antos with Milestone Electric, the company that organized the effort.
The public is still welcome to volunteer to stand or donate to help reach the $1 million goal.
