West Orange-Stark denies Celina's bid for 9th title, 22-3
HOUSTON (AP) — Quarterback Jackson Dallas ran for two touchdowns and West Orange-Stark beat Celina 22-3 to win the Class 4A Division II championship Friday, denying the Bobcats' bid for a record ninth state title.
Dallas put West Orange-Stark in front for good on a 5-yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter on the way to the school's first title since back-to-back crowns in 1986-87.
West Orange-Stark (15-1) had lost its previous three title games, including a bid for a third straight crowd in 1988.
Celina (15-1) couldn't do much on offense after quarterback Conner Pingleton was lost to an arm injury on the first series. Celina, appearing in its 11th title game, remained tied with Southlake Carroll with a record eight championships.
