Texas Rangers unveil new renderings of Globe Life Field
The Texas Rangers unveiled new artist renderings of their new ballpark on Thursday.
Globe Life Field is set to open for the 2020 season and will be located just south of the current Globe Life Park in Arlington.
The new images include some changes from the first series of renderings released last year. The arched wall along the outfield side of the park has been modified. It’s now a mostly glass wall with the arches rotated inward by 90 degrees to create a walkway inside the park.
"An asymmetric field design is one of the characteristics of baseball and of the new ballpark,” said Bryan Trubey, HKS Architects. “We played it out over the whole design."
The capacity of the new park will be 41,000, which is about 8,000 less than the current ballpark. It also features a retractable roof and air conditioning when it’s closed for those hot Texas summers. The upper deck will have a 360 degree concourse.
There will be open spaces, plenty of light and going in and out of the ballpark should feel seamless, architects said. The Rangers believe the new stadium will set the standard for ballparks of the future.
"Not another ballpark that's an incremental improvement, but more of an epic and game changing improvement,” Trubey said.
A groundbreaking for the new $1.1 billion facility will happen next Thursday.
Construction is already underway for the Texas LIVE! entertainment complex next to the new stadium. Parts of that are expected to be open in time for the 2018 season.
