Several local high school football teams in semi-final games this weekend

Every high school football team in Texas began the season with dreams of a state title. Few remain in the running.

Several high school football semi-final games are being played this weekend at AT&T Stadium.

The Duncanville Panthers and Allen Eagles will square off at 4 p.m. Saturday for the right to play in the state championship game.

Allen football is on a 30-game winning streak. USA Today has ranked the team No. 1 in the nation.

But the Panthers are coming off a big win last week. They beat Southlake Carroll 51-7, giving the Dragons their worst loss in playoff history.

Duncanville has a strong defense. It’s so strong that it hasn’t allowed any points this season in the third quarter.

"This group is special because we're a total defense,” said Reginald Samples, the Duncanville head football coach. “I think we have a good group overall."

Other local semi-final matchups include Decatur, who will play Waco La Vega at 4 p.m. Friday in Arlington. Aledo faces Wichita Falls Rider at 8 p.m.

Then on Saturday, Denton Ryan plays Highland Park at noon. It’s the third straight year the teams have met in the state semi-finals. Only one will advance to the state championships.
