Chitsey scores 10 points as Wall defeats Brock 24-21
SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Maddi Chitsey scored 10 points and garnered seven rebounds as Wall used a nearly impenetrable defense to defeat Brock 24-21 for the girls' Class 3A championship.
Wall's (34-4) 24 points on Saturday were the fewest by a championship team in the 65-year history of the state tournament, eclipsing the previous low of 27 by Hamilton in 1952.
Chitsey, a Lubbock Christian University signee, added three blocks and was named the championship game's MVP. Emma Phillips added nine points for Wall.
Trisha Jacobs led Brock (34-5) with nine points while Rachel Harrell added seven points. The eight-time champion Brock Eagles shot only 21 percent from the field (7 of 33).
The final was a re-match of 2014 when Wall defeated Brock 48-44 for their first state title.
